Dear Alpha Zeta Brothers, Family and Friends,
The chartering and sanctioning of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Alpha Zeta Chapter at then West Virginia Collegiate Institute on December 23, 1921 established the first presence of Greek Lettered organizations on this campus. The successful pledge of the charter line and subsequent initiates in the following two years established a connection with this academic institution as the chapter emerged as a watcher of all things related to West Virginia State. In 1923, an all Alpha Zeta Chapter editorial staff published the first-ever yearbook entitled “ El OjO” which translates as “The Eye” in Spanish. The character and impact of Alpha Zeta Chapter as students, graduates, alums, and professionals has resonated for now 100 years.
In 2021, West Virginia State University and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., will officially celebrate the chartering of Alpha Zeta Chapter during the 2021 Homecoming. Many of our planned events or programs will be open to the public. We look forward to welcoming our alumni and friends to campus and celebrate this monumental occasion with the Alphas.
Manly Deeds, Scholarship and Love for all mankind are the aims of our fraternity. In step with the aims of our fraternity, Alpha Zeta Chapter will award scholarships to State students during this centennial year and in perpetuity.
Your participation by registering as a Brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and initiate of Alpha Zeta will help us achieve our scholarship goals. We also welcome donations from Alpha Brothers, the family of Alpha Brothers, Alums and friends of the university as these funds help fill the financial gap experienced by State Students.
We look forward to seeing Alpha Zeta Brothers, family and friends as we celebrate 100 years of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., at State.
