Alpha Delta Chapter History

In 1923, a small band of women envisioned the inception of the Alpha Delta Chapter. The Alpha Delta Chapter began as a mixed chapter accepting both collegiate and graduate members.

The Alpha Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on the campus of West Virginia State College on June 2, 1926 by seven intellectual women. The phenomenal charter members were: Leonead Drain Bailey, Alice Curtis Forte, Mildred Grayson, Mabel Redmond, Elayne Tancil, Winnie Page Thomas, and Lucille Vanhook

Fun facts: Elayne Tancil was a matron of Dawson Hall when initiated into the Sisterhood. The current library on campus, Drain-Jordan Library, is named after Leonead Drain Bailey.
